It allows you to access cheats from a menu. – A trainer is special code which executes before the game is begun. The extra information means nothing and is removed from the true image. – An over-dumped ROM image has more data than is actually in the cart. Other times it could be a release group intro, or just some kind of cheating or funny hack. Often a hacked ROM simply has a changed header or has been enabled to run in different regions. – Something in this ROM is not quite as it should be. – A fixed game has been altered in some way so that it will run better on a copier or emulator. Another common source of ROMs is a corrupted upload to a release FTP. – A bad dump often occurs with an older game or a faulty dumper (bad connection). Many games have been re-released to fix bugs or even to eliminate Game Genie codes (Yes, Nintendo hates that device). – This is simply an alternate version of a ROM. (M#) Multiple languages with # being the number of languages. I just recently acquired a collection of GB/GBA games and have never used the GB functionality of my reader before. I purchased the reader preassembled from a seller on Etsy and he guaranteed all the functions would work, which (as far as I was able to test) they did. Unfortunately, I seem to be unable to dump GBA games properly. The reader sees the cartridges and even computes the checksum "correctly" but the resulting file is always corrupt. Looking at the files in a hex editor reveals that the first 1/8 of the file matches perfectly, but after a certain point there are big blocks of incorrect data and also blocks of just zeroes. I tried dumping the same cartridge repeatedly and the resulting file was different each time - the errors were in different places after each dump. I'm using a dedicated 5v/2A power supply, and am also running the latest firmware. SNES, N64, and Genesis cartridge dumping works perfectly. I then tried a gui, the 'fixed' rom showed up as bad, so I repaired it. Even carts with SFX and SA1 chips work great too.Īny advice you can offer would be super helpful and appreciated. it then showed up as good in both emulators but bad again via command line. what's really odd is that the checksum and accompanying text is written in yellow in snes9x while all other patched roms (with or without command line) show up as white. You always should do this before saving, if possible. You need to deactivate the SRAM by not pulling the CE/CS pin low during the read operation by changing the readByte_GB function in GB.
